ABOUT ME

For The Love Of Flowers & Travel

I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day, filled with love, laughter, and maybe even a little adventure of your own! As we celebrate connections with family, friends, and the world around us, it feels like the perfect time to share a journey that stole my heart this year…Colombia! ❤️

Medellin And It’s Resilience

We kicked things off in Medellín, exploring bustling markets and soaking up the city’s historical and architectural treasures on a cultural walking tour. Next, we rode the metro cable up to the comunas for an incredible (and eye-opening) bird’s eye view of the city, both literally and figuratively. For all you art lovers, seeing the world-famous sculptures of Fernando Botero, whimsical and larger-than-life, was fun. Medellín has overcome significant challenges over the years and today shines as a vibrant, innovative city full of energy and resilience.

Next, we ventured into the countryside, immersing ourselves in the home of a world famous sillertera. These are artisans who craft the elaborate floral arrangements known as silletas (see photo below). These aren’t just stunning displays; they’re a deep-rooted living tradition tied to Medellín’s heritage. Every August during the Feria de las Flores (Flower Festival), sillerteros proudly carry these enormous creations on their backs through the streets, honoring generations of craftsmanship and local pride. And speaking of flowers… fun fact: Colombia is the world’s second-largest exporter of cut flowers (right behind the Netherlands), and a huge portion of the Valentine’s Day bouquets in the U.S. come straight from Colombian fields! 🌹

Colombia’s flavors were just as unforgettable with coffee, chocolate, & smooth rum tastings… yes, please! ☕🍫🥃 Then the Caribbean islands called with sun-soaked beaches, turquoise waters, and some spontaneous salsa dancing to keep the heart racing.

Cartagena And It’s Cool Vibe

Our trip wrapped up in Cartagena, a city that far exceeded my expectations. Founded by Spanish explorers in 1533, Cartagena blends colonial elegance with African and Amerindian heritage. Its historic walls, once built to repel pirates, now frame sweeping ocean views, while jewel-toned mansions along cobblestone streets house chic boutiques, acclaimed restaurants, and some of Latin America’s coolest boutique hotels.

Colombia is a country of stunning contrasts: mountains and sea, tradition and modernity, energy and relaxation. A weeklong river cruise along the Magdalena River offers a relaxed, intimate way to experience the country from a different perspective.

Is South & Central American on your list? The list continues with Machu Picchu, Patagonia, the Amazon Rainforest…
